We do not believe in cookie-cutter instant quotes. Somebody comes out, looks at the house, measures the load, and then tells you what the system should be. That is the whole difference between a system that lasts twenty years and one that never quite keeps up.
Is It Time to Replace, or Time to Repair?
Nobody wakes up wanting to buy an air conditioner. Most people land here after a repair quote came back higher than expected. The honest answer depends on three things: the age of the equipment, the cost of the repair, and what refrigerant it runs.
- Under ten years, small repair. Fix it. A capacitor or a contactor on a healthy unit is not a reason to spend thousands.
- Twelve to fifteen years, and the repair is a third of a new system. That is the tipping point. Money into that unit is money you will spend again.
- R-22 equipment with a refrigerant leak. R-22 is no longer produced. Sourcing it is expensive and getting worse every year. A big leak repair on R-22 is throwing good money after bad.
- Compressor failure past twelve years. The compressor is the expensive part. When it goes on older equipment, replacement is almost always the better math.
If your unit does not fit any of those, we will tell you to keep it. We would rather do a repair and see you again in five years than sell you something you did not need.
Why Sizing Is the Whole Game
Here is what most homeowners never get told: an oversized air conditioner is worse than a slightly small one. A unit that is too big cools the house fast, hits the thermostat setpoint, and shuts off before it has run long enough to pull the humidity out of the air. You end up with a house that is 72 degrees and clammy, short cycling that wears out the compressor, and a higher bill for the privilege.
Delaware sits in climate zone 4A, which means humid summers. Dehumidification is not a bonus feature here, it is half the job. So we do a load calculation on the actual house rather than matching whatever tonnage the last guy installed.
The tonnage on your old unit is not the answer
It is a starting point at best. Houses get new windows, added insulation, finished basements, and additions. If the last system was sized wrong, replacing it with the same size just repeats the mistake for another fifteen years.
What we actually look at
- Square footage, ceiling heights, and how the house is laid out
- Window count, orientation, and glazing
- Insulation in the attic and walls
- Ductwork condition, sizing, and leakage. Bad ducts sink a good system
- Where the equipment lives, and whether that location is causing problems
- Which rooms have always been too hot or too cold, because that tells us more than any spec sheet

Installation Day
A good install is most of what determines whether the equipment hits its rated efficiency. Manufacturers publish numbers from a lab. Whether you see them at home depends on the person holding the tools.
- We protect floors and walkways before anything comes in the door
- Old equipment and refrigerant get recovered and disposed of properly
- Line sets, drain lines, and electrical get done to code, not to whatever was there before
- Ductwork gets checked and sealed where it needs it. A leaky return is a permanent efficiency tax
- The system gets commissioned: charge verified, airflow measured, thermostat configured, and the whole thing tested before we leave
- We walk you through the filter, the thermostat, and the maintenance schedule so nothing is a mystery
Most single-system replacements finish in a day. If ductwork or electrical work is involved, we tell you that up front rather than discovering it at four in the afternoon.

Questions Before You Buy
Fifteen to twenty years inland with regular maintenance. Closer to the water in Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, or Bethany, salt air shortens that, and coils are usually what goes first. Annual service makes a bigger difference on the coast than anywhere else in our territory.
In Delaware's zone 4A climate a modern cold-climate heat pump handles most of the winter efficiently. A dual fuel setup pairs the heat pump with a furnace so the furnace only runs during the coldest stretches. Which one wins depends on your ductwork, your insulation, and whether you already have gas. We look before we recommend.
Not always, but it is worth asking. The indoor coil and the blower have to be matched to the outdoor unit for the system to hit its rated efficiency. If your furnace is the same age as the AC, replacing both together usually costs less than doing them two years apart.
We take it. Refrigerant gets recovered properly, and the equipment gets hauled off and recycled. You do not end up with a condenser sitting beside the shed.
