Because it is gravel sitting on clay. Frost pushes water up through it during the thaw, and without a proper base and drainage the surface has nowhere to go but soft. The fix is depth and drainage, not another load on top.

It depends on length, what you drive on it, and what is underneath. That is why we look before we quote. The estimate is free and the number is real.

Usually, yes. A regrade reshapes the crown and edges with the material that is already there, plus fresh gravel where it is thin.

Most residential driveways are done in a day or two once we start, weather permitting. Longer drives and ones needing culverts take a bit more.
