The Case for the First Stop
Every great Wisconsin golf trip starts the same way: eastbound on I-94, clubs in the back, and a long stretch of road before anybody swings a club. Here's a better itinerary. One hour in, just off the interstate at Menomonie, there's a restored 18-hole championship course where you can shake off the rust, dial in the driver on a Toptracer Range, and have lunch and a beer, all before you're back on the road by mid-afternoon.
Think of it as your tune-up round. The destination courses you're headed to are demanding, and expensive. Arriving with 18 holes already in your legs and a swing that's found its tempo is the cheapest stroke-saver on the trip.
